The Good Gym steering group:

The Good Gym steering group formed during social innovation camp in December 2008. We are:

Alice Casey:

Alice works for Involve looking at how people are engaged in the decisions that affect their lives, and how better public involvement can improve society, policy making and public services. She also writes about public participation at http://cased.wordpress.com. She has acted as an advisor to a variety of organisations including central and local government, NHS, Ofsted and the BBC. She specialises in mass engagement and culture change combining online and offline methods.

Matthew Collins:

Matt is an entrepreneur with a passion for developing simple web-based services. He has an MBA from INSEAD and is interested in how web technologies can be used at a local scale. Matt works on the Good Gym’s technical side.

Ivo Gormley:

Ivo works at thinkpublic looking at different ways in which people can play a greater role in the design and delivery of public services. He is interested in the role of technology in shaping our social and public lives and is working on numorous projects exploring this issue including the documentary Us Now. Ivo has been running to visit a man called Terry twice a week for the last 12 months.

Jacques Mizan:

Jacques Mizan is a Senior Launchpad Associate at The Young Foundation, he is also a practicing General Practitioner. Jacques has a wealth of experience in health innovation and has himself led numerous programmes researching and implementing design-based approaches to community healthcare. Jacques guides the Good Gym through the complexities of the health system and contributes to the design of the project ensuring that health benefits for all parties are maximised.

Ed Stevens

A translator and web developer at Practical Action, Ed also volunteers with War on Want and YMCA International. Fluent in Arabic, French and Spanish, Ed has experience of charity work at different levels, he has worked for extended periods in Europe, Latin America and the Arab world. He is currently training for the London Marathon and is helping to shape the Good Gym initiative from the perspective of a runner.

Ana K

Anak works as a designer and information architect on social media projects and social enterprises.  She works to visually communicate the presence, message and goals of a wide range of socially focused organisations.  She is interested in the potential of visual metaphors as tools for involvement and is currently developing an interactive tool for visualising progress. Ana leads on the Good Gym’s design and communication.

The Project Manager:

The Project manager is responsible for the day to day running of the Good Gym. He coordinates the daily operations of the project and manages relationships with the project’s members and supporters.

The Advisory Board:

The Good Gym advisory group was formed to advise on strategy in all elements of the project and includes expertise in the areas of volunteering, health, innovation, law and sport. The advisory board is comprised of:

Andrew Dick

Andrew Dick is Head of Development at TimeBank, the national volunteering charity, where he has worked for the last 4 years. One of his many achievements is having been instrumental in the development and growth of refugee mentoring scheme Time Together which now operates across the UK. Andrew advises the Good Gym on volunteering and volunteer engagement strategy.

Paul Massey:

Paul is a a solicitor who specialises in digital media and the internet. Paul has vast experience of working on blogging and social networking policies and works with a range of social enterprises. He has professionally advised on subjects ranging from safety policies to the moderation of user generated content working with some of the major players in social media. Paul advises the Good Gym on safety procedure and legal issues.

Deborah Szebeko:

Deborah is founder and director of thinkpublic. Over the past five years, she has used a co-design approach to inform and develop products and service innovations that have been rolled out nationally by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, the Department of Health (UK), The Schools Food Trust and TimeBank. Deborah is currently undertaking PhD research with Middlesex University, exploring the challenges surrounding user-centred design and innovation in the public sector.
